By Wooden Yacht For Sale Editorial Desk
Asking prices, not valuations: prices on this page are quoted as published by third-party brokers and marketplaces, with source and check month. Every boat is subject to third-party survey, haul-out and document check. Nothing here is legal advice.
Used wooden yacht for sale listings in October 2026 included a 1998 traditional hull in Labuan Bajo, a 2012 custom build on YachtWorld and Yacht Sourcing's 30.5 m Manta Mae; the table quotes each. A pre-owned wooden hull is worth what its survey shows: sounding, fastenings, keel bolts, haul-out and documents, before any deposit.
Age alone tells you little about a wooden boat. A well-kept older hull can be in better order than a young one that has sat neglected in warm water. So the job is to find evidence, and this page sets out where it lives.
What does "used" mean for a wooden hull?
A used fibreglass boat ages in fairly predictable ways. A used wooden hull ages unevenly, depending on three things that a listing rarely spells out.
| History | Question to ask | Evidence that counts |
|---|---|---|
| Age and timber | When was it launched, and in what timber and fastenings? | Surat Ukur or builder's papers, sample fastening pulled in survey |
| Refits | What was replaced, by whom, and when? | Yard invoices, photos taken during the work, a plank and frame schedule |
| Operating history | Private use or paying guests? How many seasons, and which waters? | Logbooks, permits, maintenance record, haul-out dates |
The operating record matters especially for tourism boats. A boat worked hard all season has had more miles and more guests, but it may also have been maintained on a schedule. A private boat left on a mooring may have fewer hours and more hidden decay. Neither is automatically better, so ask for the records and read them.
Which pre-owned asking prices were published in October 2026?
The table on this page lists the examples with their source and the month we checked them. The range is wide because the boats are different kinds of thing: a 39.75 m six-cabin boat in Jakarta, a 47 m ten-cabin vessel in Labuan Bajo, a forum post for a 14.75 m boat built in 2015.
Read them as reference points only. Asking prices are the opening position of a negotiation, and sold prices for wooden boats are rarely published. Two rows come with extra caution: the Boat Guru liveaboard has expired, and the Bursakapal row is a marketplace snippet from June 2026.
If you are looking for a reference for one specific length, go to wooden yacht asking prices by length. If you are comparing the whole pre-owned market, start with our overview of wooden boats for sale.
What belongs on a used wooden boat due-diligence checklist?
Run through this list in order. Anything you cannot get an answer to goes in writing, with a date, before money moves.
- Hull. A full survey with sounding, spiking, sample fastenings, frames, floors, seams, and keel bolts on a ballasted boat. Read our survey scope guide first.
- Haul-out. Dates of the last few, plus a new one for your survey. Bottom paint condition matters in warm salt water, where teredo and gribble can attack unprotected timber within a season.
- Engine. Hours, service record, shaft and stern gland. Ask for a run under load during the sea trial.
- Systems. Electrics, plumbing, fuel tanks and any compressors. Tourism boats add more of these, and more ways to fail.
- Documents. Surat Ukur, registration deed or Grosse Akta, transfer history, mortgage status and nationality document, all matched to the actual boat. See how to check title documents.
- Permits. For a commercial boat, which permits belong to the vessel and which to the operating company. They do not always travel together.
- Insurance. Ask an underwriter what they require before you buy, and confirm in writing that wooden construction and your cruising area are accepted.
What are the red flags that should stop a purchase?
Some findings can be priced into an offer. These should halt the deal until they are settled in writing, as Boatmere's survey guide also advises:
- The seller refuses a haul-out.
- The seller refuses a sea trial.
- Pressure to pay a deposit without a neutral stakeholder.
- A contract with no acceptance condition after survey.
- A survey report that skips rot, fastenings, seams, frames or keel bolts.
- A report that relies only on a moisture meter, since a sound wooden hull can read high.
- Names on the documents that do not match the seller, or a mortgage no one mentions.
- Measurements on the Surat Ukur that do not match the boat in front of you.
Fresh paint is not on the list as a flag in itself, but a newly painted bilge deserves a second look. Paint can hide the staining a surveyor wants to see, so ask what was done and why.
How do you judge a refit you did not see?
Most older wooden boats have been worked on, and a listing that says "fully refitted" may mean new interior cushions or new frames. Pin the word down by asking for three things.
- A schedule. Which planks, frames, floors, deck areas and fastenings were replaced, by location.
- Proof. Yard invoices and dated photographs taken with the boat opened up.
- A reason. Repairs follow a failure. Replaced frames near the engine, for example, should lead you to ask why those frames failed and whether the cause has gone.
Sister frames deserve a specific look. A sister frame reinforces a weak member, but it does not repair the failure beneath it, and decay can hide between the two. Ask your surveyor to check the landings and fastenings on any sistered frame.
Budget for what the report may find. We have no verified public figures for refit work in Indonesia, so ask a yard to quote from the survey findings. Our refit cost guide explains what moves that quote.
Where do second-hand wooden boats in Labuan Bajo and Bali sit?
Labuan Bajo is where we can document the most boats. KSOP Labuan Bajo reported 707 registered vessels in September 2025, including 340 phinisi. Several used listings in our table lie there, and Labuan Bajo Marina offers berths, fuel and maintenance support, according to Superyacht Guide and the marina's own site.
Bali comes up more as a place for fit-out and berthing. Emerhub describes the BMTH terminal at Benoa as offering berths for superyachts up to 90 m. We hold no verified used wooden listing lying in Bali in this research pass, so we will not suggest there is one.
Searches for a used wooden yacht in Phuket or Langkawi fall in the same category: we have no verified current example, and the desk can only look on request. Batam and Jakarta come up too, and Yacht Sourcing did show one Jakarta boat.
In what order should offer, deposit, escrow and acceptance happen?
Sequence protects you more than any single clause. MYBA's 2021 form no longer fixes the deposit at 10 percent. Deposit size is agreed commercially, and the stakeholder must hold it before the sea trial or condition survey takes place.
| Stage | What happens | Your protection |
|---|---|---|
| Offer | Written, subject to survey and sea trial | No money yet |
| Contract | Names deposit, stakeholder, survey deadline, refund terms | Right to withdraw is written in |
| Deposit | Paid to the stakeholder named in the contract | Not paid to the seller or an unnamed party |
| Survey and trial | Haul-out, survey, sea trial at the agreed time | You choose the surveyor |
| Acceptance | Accept, renegotiate from findings, or withdraw | Findings put in writing |
| Closing | Transfer documents and balance | Mortgage cleared first |
In Indonesia, Emerhub describes transfer through an Akta Jual Beli before a notary, with survey and sea trial coming before the change of name. Our guide to escrow on a wooden yacht covers the deposit stage in more detail.
Asking prices we checked
Public asking prices from third-party brokers, marketplaces and forums, each with its source and the month we checked it. Asking prices are not valuations or sale prices, they exclude survey, delivery, registration and tax, and listings may already be gone.

What do buyers ask about pre-owned wooden yachts?
The first question below is the one to send before you travel to see a boat.
What questions should I ask when buying a wooden boat?
Ask for the date of the last haul-out, fastening material, the last keel bolt inspection, engine hours, recent replacements, documents in the owner's name and any mortgage. Then ask whether the seller will allow a haul-out and sea trial for your own surveyor.
What are the red flags when buying a wooden boat?
A refused haul-out or sea trial, a deposit requested without a stakeholder, a survey that skips rot and fastenings, and documents that do not match the seller or the boat. Stop until each is resolved in writing.
Where can I find used wooden boats for sale?
YachtWorld filters by hull material, Yacht Sourcing lists used boats in Indonesia, Indonesian marketplaces and forums carry private posts, and Sandeman and Wooden Ships cover classics. Send our desk a brief if you would like someone to look on your behalf.
How old is too old for a used wooden yacht?
There is no verified cut-off. Published listings in October 2026 ran from a classic built in 1887 to a boat from 2023. Condition, rebuild record and intended use decide the question, and only a surveyor who has seen the boat can speak to that.
Can a wooden yacht be used in tropical climates?
Yes, many work there, but warm water brings teredo and gribble when the bottom paint fails, and trapped moisture encourages rot. Ask how often the boat has been hauled and what the last survey found.
