Asking prices, not valuations: prices on this page are quoted as published by third-party brokers and marketplaces, with source and check month. Every boat is subject to third-party survey, haul-out and document check. Nothing here is legal advice.
Wooden boats for sale in October 2026 appeared on YachtWorld, Yacht Sourcing, Boat Guru, Divecenterforsale and Indonesian marketplaces, with asking prices moving by length, year and fit-out. The table on this page quotes a sample with source and month. This guide explains hull types, listings and how to reach our desk.
The word "boat" covers more ground than "yacht" here. A forum post for a 14.75 m Labuan Bajo day boat and a broker page for a 39.75 m guest vessel both count, and buyers often search for both before they know which they need.
Which wooden hull types are on the market?
Start by naming the type. It tells you the likely timber, the use the boat was built for, and which papers should exist.
| Type | What it usually is | Who tends to buy it |
|---|---|---|
| Phinisi (also spelled pinisi) | Traditional Indonesian wooden hull. UNESCO uses the name for the rig and sail of the Sulawesi schooner. | Tourism operators, private owners who want volume |
| Classic sailing yacht | Named designer, older build, often rebuilt | Enthusiasts, classic racers |
| Modern traditional build | New hull to a working-boat tradition, such as a pilot cutter | Long-distance sailors |
| Motor boat or launch | Wooden motor boats for sale, including tenders and launches | Coastal owners, restorers |
| Trawler or motor-sailer | Displacement hull with power first and sail second | Liveaboard owners |
| Dive or guest boat | Cabins, compressors and tenders fitted for commercial trips | Operators buying a business tool |
Old wooden boats for sale and restored wooden boats for sale sit across all of these. The difference between them is paperwork. A restored boat should come with a record of what was replaced and when. An old one without that record is a question mark, however good the varnish looks.
What do the October 2026 examples show about reading a wooden boat listing?
We read each example for what it states and what it leaves out. Five patterns stood out.
- Length is often the only hard number. Several Indonesian listings give length and cabins but no tonnage, which is the figure registration turns on.
- Year can mean two things. A classic shown as 1924/2012 was built in the first year and rebuilt in the second. Ask what the second date covered.
- Location is not always the market. One "phinisi" custom example lay in Coron, in the Philippines, not in Indonesia.
- Some listings have ended. Boat Guru showed a 2023 91 ft dive liveaboard with its status expired. It is still useful as a reference, but it is not on offer.
- A project is not a boat. A 40 m Labuan Bajo listing on Divecenterforsale is an unfinished hull offered as a company takeover, with about nine months of work left.
Treat missing fields as questions for the seller. Good ones to send early are gross tonnage, the date of the last haul-out, engine hours, the fastening material and which documents are held in the owner's name.
The used wooden yacht checklist turns these into a full due-diligence list.
Where are wooden boats sold: Labuan Bajo, Bali, Jakarta, Raja Ampat or abroad?
A wooden boat marketplace can show you a boat anywhere, so location is worth thinking through. The boat's position affects how you view it, who surveys it, and what it costs to bring it to where you want it.
Labuan Bajo has the deepest pool we can document. KSOP Labuan Bajo counted 707 registered vessels in September 2025, including 340 phinisi and 86 ordinary wooden boats. Several of the Indonesian examples in our table lie there.
Jakarta and Raja Ampat each appeared in Yacht Sourcing's used listings. Raja Ampat boats may be working a season away from the usual Komodo route, so viewing takes planning.
Bali comes up constantly as a place to keep and fit out a boat, yet our price table has no Bali row. We would rather show that gap than fill it with a guess.
Europe and the UK. Classic brokers list boats lying in France, Spain, Belgium and Cornwall. Wooden boats for sale in Europe, as our examples show, tend to come with long histories and, sometimes, tax questions: one Sandeman listing states that VAT has not been paid.
If your interest is one specific hull type, a sister Juara Holding Group brand keeps phinisi boat listings of its own, and we disclose that relationship here. This page stays broader.
How do schooner, ketch and motor-sailer configurations differ?
Configuration shapes how a boat handles and what a survey has to cover. Rig type does not fix crew size on its own. Length, sail area and winches matter at least as much.
| Configuration | Layout | What it adds to your checks |
|---|---|---|
| Schooner | Two or more masts, aft mast as tall as or taller than the forward one | More spars, more halyards and sheets, more deck stations |
| Ketch | Mainmast forward, smaller mizzen ahead of the rudder post | A second mast and boom, with sail area split into smaller units |
| Gaff cutter | One mast, gaff mainsail, several headsails | Gaff gear, running backstays, large headsails |
| Motor-sailer | Sails and engine share the work | Engine hours and shaft matter as much as rig |
A listing may show a schooner rig on a hull that mostly motors. Ask how often the sails have been set, and when the rig was last inspected. A rig that looks the part may never have been loaded.
Our guide to wooden sailing yachts goes further on rig choice.
What should a buyer know about the timber in a listing?
Listings often name a timber in one word, and that word carries weight. "Teak" may describe the deck and trim while the frames are something else. "Ironwood" may apply to keel and main structure only. Builder sources for Indonesian hulls describe ulin (ironwood) for keels and main structure, teak for decks, trim and interiors, and bitti for framing, though those sources are Juara Holding Group brands and should be read as a builder's view.
Classic European boats use different recipes. A 68 ft pilot cutter at Wooden Ships is listed as oak on oak, and an 1887 gaff cutter is listed with most of its planking renewed during a rebuild.
Ask which timber sits where, and what the fastenings are made of. Bronze and galvanised fastenings age differently, and iron in contact with timber can split the wood around it as it rusts. Our comparison of teak and ironwood hulls explains why this matters.
Age adds a second question: was the timber seasoned? No public record lets a buyer verify that afterwards, so judge the hull as it stands today through a survey.
What does an asking price not include?
A low headline figure can look appealing until the extras arrive. These items sit outside the price in every listing we quote, so budget for them separately:
- Survey and haul-out. Published 2026 guides price these per foot and bill haul-out separately, with older and wooden boats at the top of the survey range.
- Delivery. A boat in Coron or Raja Ampat has to get to where you plan to use it.
- Registration and transfer. Official fees follow the PNBP tariff on the date of service, and we have no verified public figure for each item.
- Tax. VAT status abroad and import treatment in Indonesia depend on the boat's history and the use you plan.
- Repairs found by the survey. This is the largest unknown, which is why the survey has to come before the money.

Asking prices we checked
Public asking prices from third-party brokers, marketplaces and forums, each with its source and the month we checked it. Asking prices are not valuations or sale prices, they exclude survey, delivery, registration and tax, and listings may already be gone.

What do people ask about buying a wooden boat?
These are the questions that come up before anyone gets as far as a survey.
Is there a dedicated wooden boat dealer I should use?
Specialist brokers publish wooden listings, such as Sandeman and Wooden Ships for classics. In Indonesia, listings spread across marketplaces, forums and brokers. We name these as sources, not as partners, and you should verify anyone you deal with.
Are wooden boats safe?
Safety depends on the individual hull, its upkeep and its crew. Media counted at least six wooden tourist vessels sunk around Labuan Bajo in 2025, which is why survey and insurance matter. Never accept a seller's word in place of a survey.
Can I buy a wooden boat by owner rather than through a broker?
Yes, and private listings do appear on forums and marketplaces. You then carry the title check, the contract and the deposit arrangement yourself, so a neutral stakeholder and a written survey clause matter even more.
Why are some wooden boats listed so far below others of similar length?
Timber, age, fit-out, engine and permits can all differ, and some listings are unfinished projects or old hulls that need work. Length alone says little. A survey report is the fair way to compare two boats.
Do you have restored wooden boats available right now?
The site keeps no stock. Send the desk your brief and we will look for current listings that fit, with the source and date attached.
Which sources support this page?
These are the sources behind the facts above. Where a source is a commercial consultant, a snippet or a third-party guide, the text says so.
