Asking prices, not valuations: prices on this page are quoted as published by third-party brokers and marketplaces, with source and check month. Every boat is subject to third-party survey, haul-out and document check. Nothing here is legal advice.

A luxury wooden yacht for sale in October 2026 could be Yacht Sourcing's 47 m ten-cabin Mutiara, the 39.75 m six-cabin Sotis or the Kartini on YachtWorld, with asking prices in the table here. In a listing, luxury describes fit-out, cabins and crew history. The hull underneath still needs the same survey.

That last sentence is the point of this page. A fine interior can sit on tired fastenings, and a plain interior can sit on excellent timber. This guide helps you separate what the money bought from what the structure can do.

What does "luxury" mean on a wooden hull?

The word has no agreed definition in yacht listings. In practice sellers use it for four separate things, and a boat can be strong on one and weak on another.

What does "luxury" mean on a wooden hull?
What the listing saysWhat it usually refers toWhat to ask for
Luxury cabinsNumber of cabins, en-suite layout, air-conditioningGeneral arrangement plan, photos dated this year
Premium fit-outJoinery, soft furnishings, galley, onboard systemsRefit invoices and a list of who did the work
Professional crewWhether crew come with the boat, and their rolesCurrent crew list and what happens to it at sale
Charter historyPast commercial useLogs, permits in the operator's name, incident records

None of those four items says anything about the planking, the frames or the keel bolts. Custom wooden yachts and handcrafted wooden yachts are often sold on finish because finish photographs well. Structure has to be opened up to be judged.

Which luxury asking prices were published in October 2026?

The price table on this page quotes three examples, each with its source and the month we checked it. Here is what each one is, without repeating the figures.

  • Mutiara. 47 m with ten cabins, shown at Labuan Bajo by Yacht Sourcing, an Indonesian broker.
  • Sotis. 39.75 m with six cabins, shown at Jakarta by Yacht Sourcing.
  • Kartini. Seen on YachtWorld's Asia category as a search listing. We could read the snippet only, so verify it on YachtWorld.

All three are hulls of the Indonesian phinisi type, which is one wooden hull type among many on this site. Asking prices are not valuations or sale prices. They exclude survey, delivery, registration and tax, and any of these boats may already be gone.

For wider context, our guide to wooden yacht prices groups published examples by length, and the wooden boats for sale overview shows where listings tend to appear. Classic European yachts form a separate market with their own brokers, so we keep them apart.

Which timbers sit behind the teak decks and ironwood keels?

Juara Holding Group builder sites describe the usual Indonesian recipe: ulin, or ironwood, for keels and main structure; teak for decks, trim and interiors; and bitti for frames and hull parts. Those are builder descriptions and not neutral survey data, so confirm the species on the boat in front of you.

Luxury finish creates its own risks. A teak deck is laid over a structure, held down with fastenings and sealed along many seams. Cali Coast Marine Services points to leaking deck fittings and the area behind ceiling boards as places where rot develops, because moisture gets trapped and airflow is poor.

Fine interiors make this harder to check. Ceiling boards, panelling and built-in furniture hide the very timber a surveyor needs to reach. IIMS warns that wooden boats can have many hidden defects that take time to find. Agree in advance which panels can come off, and who puts them back.

Our comparison of teak and ironwood in a hull goes further into what each timber does.

How do cabins and guests connect to the GT 175 threshold?

Cabin count pushes up length, and length pushes up gross tonnage. Tonnage then decides how the boat can be held and run in Indonesia, so it belongs in the first conversation.

Emerhub, a commercial consultant, reported in March 2026 that PP 28/2025 sets the minimum vessel size for maritime operations by a foreign-invested company (PT PMA) at more than GT 175. It also reports a cap of 49 percent foreign shareholding in a domestic shipping company, with an Indonesian legal entity holding the rest, and Indonesian nationals for all crew on such a vessel.

We have this through a consultant rather than from reading every regulation, and the structure depends on what you intend to do with the boat. So take these points to a licensed Indonesian maritime lawyer before you shortlist:

  • Does this boat's measured tonnage on the Surat Ukur fit the structure you have in mind?
  • Will the boat carry paying guests, or stay private?
  • Which permits are attached to the current operator, and which can pass to you?

Listed length will not answer the first question. Ask for the measurement certificate. If you intend to operate commercially, our liveaboard buyers' guide covers the permit side in more detail.

How should you read operating history without simply believing it?

A long charter record can show that a boat has worked, been crewed and been looked after. It can also mean heavy use and deferred repairs. Treat the story as a lead to check rather than as evidence.

Ask for these records, and notice how the seller responds:

  1. Engine and generator hour logs, with service dates.
  2. Haul-out dates and yard invoices for the past several years.
  3. Any previous survey reports, along with who commissioned them.
  4. Insurance history and any claims the seller will disclose.
  5. Permits and operator documents, in whose name they are held, and whether they transfer.

Then bring the structure back into it. Boatmere lists reports that skip rot, fastenings, frames or keel bolts among the warning signs, along with refused haul-outs or sea trials. Those warning signs do not change because the saloon is beautiful.

Scale claims need the same care. Lamima, built in 2014 at 65.2 m, is marketed by a charter broker as the world's largest wooden sailing yacht. "Marketed as" is the honest phrase, and you should keep that wording in mind for any superlative you read.

What do luxury buyers ask before requesting a listing?

Short answers to the questions that come up first. Each one still ends with a survey, a document check and your own lawyer.

What makes a wooden yacht luxury?

Mostly what was added to the hull: cabin count and finish, air-conditioning and other onboard systems, crew accommodation and how the boat has been run. The word has no regulated meaning in a listing, so ask for the specification and judge the boat on evidence.

Are wooden superyachts for sale in Indonesia?

Large wooden hulls do appear. Yacht Sourcing showed a 47 m ten-cabin vessel and a 39.75 m six-cabin vessel in its used section when we checked. Lamima, at 65.2 m, is marketed by a charter broker as the world's largest wooden sailing yacht, but that is a marketing claim and she is not a listing we can confirm.

Can a bespoke wooden yacht be bought instead of a used one?

Yes, a custom or handcrafted wooden yacht can be built to order, but that is a construction contract with timeline and budget risk rather than a purchase of a finished boat. Our comparison of new builds and used boats sets out what changes for the buyer.

Does a higher asking price mean the hull is in better condition?

No. An asking price reflects what the seller hopes to get and often reflects fit-out more than structure. Only sounding, spiking, fastening samples, a haul-out and a sea trial tell you about the hull, and those apply at every price level.

Do luxury teak yachts need less maintenance?

We have seen no source saying so. Teak decks and brightwork add varnish, caulking and leak control to the schedule, and leaks around deck fittings are a known starting point for rot. Budget the work from written yard quotes rather than from a general rule.

Which sources support this page?

Checked by the desk in October and November 2026. A source being listed does not mean the source agrees with us or has reviewed this page, and limited-verification items deserve a second look before you rely on them.
