By Wooden Yacht For Sale Editorial Desk
Asking prices, not valuations: prices on this page are quoted as published by third-party brokers and marketplaces, with source and check month. Every boat is subject to third-party survey, haul-out and document check. Nothing here is legal advice.
A 30m wooden yacht for sale sits in the middle of the length classes listed in October 2026: boats of about 15 to 20 m and about 28 to 31 m, a 39.75 m hull and a 47 m ten-cabin vessel, each quoted in the table with source and month. Length sets crew, tonnage, permits and survey effort, so compare within a class.
Searching by length is a sensible way to begin, because length shapes almost everything that follows. It is also easy to overrate. This guide shows what each class looked like in published listings, and what you should check beyond the tape measure.
Why does length drive gross tonnage, crew, permits and survey cost?
Each extra metre adds more than length. It tends to add volume, and with it tonnage, crew and running work.
| Factor | How length affects it | What to confirm |
|---|---|---|
| Gross tonnage | Grows with size and volume, though beam and height matter too | The figure on the Surat Ukur |
| Legal structure | Emerhub reports a more-than-GT 175 minimum for vessels run by a foreign-invested company | Your lawyer's view for this boat |
| Crew | More systems and guests mean more people | Who stays with the boat, and their terms |
| Survey | Guides quote per foot, with wooden boats at the upper end | A written quote and days on site |
| Haul-out | Slips have physical limits | A named slip that can lift this hull |
Do not guess tonnage from length. Two boats of the same length can measure quite differently, and the difference may decide which structure and documents apply. Our page on the wooden yacht price explains why length also fails to set value.
What was listed in the 20 m class, and what does it suit?
The price table on this page has two examples at or below this size, and neither is typical of the big charter boats.
- 14.75 m, built 2015, Labuan Bajo. A KapalAku forum post, marked negotiable, with an uncertain date.
- 65 ft (19.8 m), built 2016, Coron, Philippines. A YachtWorld search listing, described as a custom pleasure cruiser or dive boat.
Boats around here can suit a private owner, a small dive operation or a first project. Check tonnage carefully, because a boat of this size may well fall outside whatever structure you had in mind.
Why does the 25 to 30 m class stand out in liveaboard listings?
This is where listings begin to offer several guest cabins with crew. Two published examples:
- 91 ft (about 27.7 m), built 2023, Labuan Bajo. A dive liveaboard with six cabins and twelve berths on Boat Guru. The listing had expired when we checked.
- Manta Mae, 30.5 m, Raja Ampat. Five cabins, shown by Yacht Sourcing.
Notice that the shorter boat lists more cabins. Length does not set layout, and more cabins may mean less crew or storage space. Ask for the general arrangement plan and compare it with what your guests expect.
A 30 m wooden yacht is a large structure to look after. Allow several days for a proper survey, and remember IIMS's guidance of up to two days for a thirty-foot traditional yacht in reasonable condition. Our liveaboard guide goes deeper on what a working boat needs.
What sits in the 35 to 40 m class: luxury fit-outs or project boats?
Both. And that makes this class a good warning about reading lengths alone.
- Sotis, 39.75 m, Jakarta. Six cabins, shown by Yacht Sourcing.
- Unfinished 40 m project, Labuan Bajo. Ulin and steel, about nine months of work said to remain, offered as a company takeover on Divecenterforsale.
Nearly the same length, and very different things to buy. Six cabins on nearly 40 m also leaves a lot of volume per guest, so ask what that space is used for. For an unfinished hull, the remaining work is the real question. Our page on wooden boats for sale helps you see how these fit into the wider market.
A finished example has a real time advantage over a new contract, so ask any builder for a written schedule before you compare the two.
What sits above 45 m?
Examples are few, and they become almost individual cases.
- Mutiara, 47 m, Labuan Bajo. Ten cabins, shown by Yacht Sourcing. It is the largest example in our table.
- Lamima, 65.2 m, built 2014. Marketed by a charter broker as the world's largest wooden sailing yacht. We report the claim as marketing, and she is not a listing we can confirm.
At this size, ask early where she can be lifted, who insures her, and which flag and company structure can hold her. Crew depth and engineering matter as much as the hull.
What is the best length for a liveaboard: cabins or running cost?
We found no neutral data on a best size. Work backwards from your use, rather than forwards from a length you like.
- How many guests do you plan to carry, in how many cabins?
- What will rules allow for that number, on your flag and route?
- How many crew will that need, and where do they sleep?
- Where will she be hauled out, and how often?
- Which ports and anchorages will she use, and does draft limit you?
- What do fuel, antifouling and survey add at this length? Get written quotes.
Then look at listings within the class you arrive at. A smaller boat in good condition may serve you better than a larger one you cannot afford to look after. Per-foot survey rates also add up quickly on a longer boat, and Global Yacht Guide notes that older boats can cost more because the surveyor may recommend extra checks.
Asking prices we checked
Public asking prices from third-party brokers, marketplaces and forums, each with its source and the month we checked it. Asking prices are not valuations or sale prices, they exclude survey, delivery, registration and tax, and listings may already be gone.

What do buyers ask about choosing a length?
Quick answers to the length questions that come up most. Listed examples may have changed or sold since we checked.
What is a 60 foot wooden yacht in metres?
Sixty feet is about 18.3 m. Convert every listing to one unit before you compare, and check which length is being quoted, as length overall can include a bowsprit or other extensions. The nearest example in our table is a 65 ft boat of about 19.8 m.
Is a 25m wooden yacht big enough for charter guests?
Length alone will not tell you. The closest published example we have, a 91 ft dive liveaboard, had six cabins and twelve berths in its listing, which has since expired. Check the general arrangement, safety rules and permits for your guest numbers, and seek local advice.
Are 40m wooden yachts for sale in Indonesia?
Examples appeared when we checked in October 2026: a 39.75 m six-cabin boat in Jakarta, and an unfinished 40 m project in Labuan Bajo offered as a company takeover. Those are very different purchases at nearly the same length, so read the description closely.
Does a longer boat always mean a higher price?
No. Published asking prices do not follow length neatly, since age, condition, fit-out and completion all intervene. The table on this page shows that, and an unfinished hull can list well below a smaller finished boat. Compare like with like inside a class.
What length should I choose for a liveaboard?
Start with the number of cabins and guests you need, then look at crew, tonnage and running costs, and then at length. We found no neutral data on an ideal size, so ask operators what they would change, and test your plan against written quotes.
